Other members include the Sydney, Northern Sydney and Western Sydney Local Health Districts, the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network (Westmead) and a number of prominent medical research institutes.

Why study with USYD?

The University of Sydney is ranked among the top 20 universities in the world for quality of research and teaching in medicine* and is the largest university provider of postgraduate vocational courses in Australasia.

Our postgraduate medical curriculum is regularly updated to ensure it remains current and relevant. Courses provide depth and breadth of education and training in discipline-specific areas as well as in non-technical skills such as research methods, communication and teaching.

Many of programs and units of study are endorsed by the relevant professional colleges, and some can be credited towards college training requirements. Several units of study are also designed to prepare candidates for college examinations.

Within our broadly structured programs, participants can tailor a course to meet the needs and study at their own pace. So that participants can continue to meet their professional commitments, most of the courses are delivered online, with short intensive face-to-face workshops included for some units of study.

Flexible course choices Most of the programs listed on the following pages are offered at master’s, graduate diploma and graduate certificate levels, and in some cases also at advanced master’s level (which provides a closely supervised research opportunity that can be completed part time). It is usually possible to move between these awards, provided the degree requirements are met. In some cases, if participants do not meet the entry requirements for a master’s degree program, the graduate certificate or graduate diploma can provide an alternative entry pathway. To find a course that matches participants interests, desired study level and eligibility for admission.

Flexible course structure Course structure varies slightly between degrees, but the following basic principles generally apply. − Most units of study are available as standalone units that can later be credited to a degree if completed successfully. − Compulsory units of study in the graduate diploma and master’s degrees usually include Introduction to Clinical Epidemiology, which can be taken at any time during your studies. − The range of stream-specific units is unique to each degree. Elective units can be chosen from those stream-specific units or from the broader list of available elective units. The graduate certificates comprise stream-specific units of study only.

Admission criteria

To be admitted to one of our Master of Medicine programs, you must hold a recognised medical degree. Some programs are also available to health and science graduates.

More specific admission criteria apply to individual programs. Commonwealth supported places In 2019, USYD may be able to offer a limited number of Commonwealth supported places in certain programs, based on merit.

In a Commonwealth supported place, your tuition fees will be subsidised by the Australian Government and you will pay the remainder – called a ‘student contribution’ amount.
